Boston Grammar School is part of the Lincolnshire Consortium of Grammar Schools, which uses a shared entrance test provided by GL Assessment. The test assesses verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning (including spatial awareness) across a two-stage process. A child sits the test once and can apply to consortium schools. Entry is on the basis of academic ability.
The Boston Grammar School 11 plus exam consists of two papers sat on separate dates: a verbal reasoning paper and a non-verbal reasoning and spatial awareness paper. The tests are usually administered at the child's primary school. Scores are age-standardised and combined, and for September 2027 entry the papers are sat in September 2026, with the verbal reasoning paper around 11 or 12 September and the non-verbal reasoning paper around 18 or 19 September.
For Boston Grammar School 11 plus registration, families must register their child for the Lincolnshire Consortium test, usually through the consortium or the child's school, during the registration window. Families must also submit their Local Authority Common Application Form (CAF), naming the school, by 31 October.
Entrance test results are shared with parents in the autumn, ahead of the 31 October application deadline, with allocations made on National Offer Day on 1 March 2027. The published qualifying standard is a total standardised score of at least 220 across the two papers; reaching it does not guarantee a place, as the school applies its admissions criteria where demand exceeds places.
