The Greenshaw High School selective stream uses the Sutton Selective Eligibility Test (SET). Here is everything you need to know about the Greenshaw High School admissions criteria and exam structure.
Greenshaw High School is partially selective and uses the Sutton Selective Eligibility Test (SET) for its ability places. The SET consists of two multiple-choice papers, one in English and one in Maths, each lasting roughly 40 to 50 minutes. The English paper covers spelling and reading comprehension, while the Maths paper covers Key Stage 2 topics.
Unlike the Sutton grammar schools, Greenshaw High School uses only the first-stage SET and does not require a second-stage examination. Children must reach the qualifying standard in both the English and Maths papers to be considered for a selective place. Scores are standardised each year to ensure fairness across all applicants.
Parents register their child for the Sutton SET online through the website of any of the participating Sutton schools, and only need to register once. Registration typically takes place over the spring and summer, with the test held in September. Parents must also name Greenshaw High School on the Common Application Form (CAF).
SET results are usually issued to parents within about a week of the test, after which families submit their secondary school application to the Local Authority, ranking their preferred schools, by the 31st October deadline. School place offers are confirmed on National Offer Day in early March. Meeting the qualifying standard does not guarantee a selective place.
