Nonsuch High School for Girls uses the shared Sutton grammar schools’ admissions process, which has two stages. Stage one is the Selective Eligibility Test (SET), made up of two multiple-choice papers in English and Maths. The SET decides only who progresses; it does not contribute to the final ranking.
Girls who meet the qualifying standard in both SET papers are invited to the second stage, the Nonsuch and Wallington Second Stage Entrance Examination (NWSSEE), shared with Wallington High School for Girls. This stage has written English and Maths papers, including an extended writing task and a 45-minute maths paper, and the final ranking is based on these Stage Two scores.
Parents register their daughter for the Sutton SET online through the Sutton grammar schools’ portal, and only need to register once. Registration typically opens in May and closes in early August, with the tests held in September. Parents must also name Nonsuch High School for Girls on the Common Application Form (CAF).
Test results are usually issued to parents in mid-October, after which families submit their secondary school application to the Local Authority, ranking their preferred schools, by the 31st October deadline. School place offers are confirmed on National Offer Day in early March. Passing both stages does not guarantee a place, as the school is regularly oversubscribed.
