The Latymer School entrance test is the school’s own two-part examination. Here is everything you need to know about The Latymer School admissions criteria and exam structure.
The Latymer School selects pupils through its own entrance examination, taken on a single assessment day. Children sit a Mathematics paper and a Verbal Reasoning paper, both provided by GL Assessment and multiple-choice, together with a written English paper set by the school covering reading comprehension and creative writing.
The Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning papers last around 30 minutes each and are taken first, while the written English paper lasts 60 minutes. The Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning papers are marked and age-standardised first, and only the highest-scoring candidates, around the top 700, have their English paper marked and combined into a final re-standardised score.
Parents register their child for the entrance examination using the online Supplementary Information Form on the school website. For September 2027 entry, registration opens on 17th March 2026 and closes on 2nd June 2026. Parents must also name The Latymer School on their Common Application Form, which is due by the 31st October.
Test results are sent to parents in mid-October, after which families confirm their secondary school preferences. School place offers are confirmed on National Offer Day, 1st March 2027. There is no single fixed pass mark, and as the school is heavily oversubscribed, a strong score does not guarantee a place.
