Tunbridge Wells Girls' Grammar School uses the Kent Test, the 11 plus assessment used across Kent grammar schools and administered by Kent County Council. The exam board is GL Assessment. A girl needs to sit only one Kent Test to apply to any of the Kent grammar schools. Entry is on the basis of academic ability, as the school can only consider girls who have been assessed as suitable for selective education.
The Tunbridge Wells Girls' Grammar School 11 plus exam consists of two multiple-choice papers and a separate writing task. One paper covers English and maths, and the other covers verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, and spatial reasoning, each lasting around an hour. The 40-minute writing task is not marked as part of the score but may be used by a headteacher panel in borderline or appeal cases. For the September 2027 entry, the test takes place on Thursday 10 September 2026, for girls at Kent primary schools, and over the weekend of 12 to 13 September 2026 for those at schools outside Kent.
