Wilmington Grammar School for Boys uses the Kent Test, the 11 plus assessment used across Kent grammar schools and administered by Kent County Council. The exam board is GL Assessment. A boy needs to sit only one Kent Test to apply to any of the Kent grammar schools. Entry is on the basis of academic ability.
The Wilmington Grammar School for Boys 11 plus exam consists of two multiple-choice papers and a separate writing task. The first paper covers English and maths, and the second covers verbal and non-verbal reasoning, each taking around an hour. The 40-minute writing task is not marked as part of the score but may be used by a headteacher panel in borderline or appeal cases. The test is sat in September of Year 6.
