The Alcester Grammar School entrance test is the West Midlands Grammar Schools’ Entrance Test, shared across grammar schools in the West Midlands. Here is everything you need to know about the Alcester Grammar School admissions criteria and exam structure.
Alcester Grammar School selects pupils on academic ability through the West Midlands Grammar Schools’ Entrance Test. The test is provided by GL Assessment and consists of two multiple-choice papers, each lasting approximately 60 minutes including instructions and practice questions. The papers assess English, mathematics, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning.
Each of the two papers is divided into separately timed sections, and all questions are multiple-choice, with answers recorded in a separate answer booklet that is marked electronically. Scores are age-standardised so that younger children are not disadvantaged, and candidates are then ranked by their standardised score. A single sitting can be used to apply to several West Midlands grammar schools.
Parents register their child for the West Midlands Grammar Schools’ Entrance Test through Warwickshire Admissions. For September 2027 entry, registration opens on 7 May 2026 and closes at 4pm on 30 June 2026. Parents must also name Alcester Grammar School on their local authority Common Application Form, which is due by the 31st October.
Test results are emailed to parents on Friday 16 October 2026, after which families confirm their secondary school preferences through their local authority. School place offers are confirmed on National Offer Day, 1 March 2027. Meeting the qualifying standard does not guarantee a place, as the school is regularly oversubscribed.
