The Aylesbury High School entrance test is the Buckinghamshire Secondary Transfer Test, with the Practice Test on Tuesday, 8th September 2026 and the Secondary Transfer Test on Thursday, 10th September 2026. Here is everything you need to know about the admissions process and exam structure.
Aylesbury High School selects pupils through the Buckinghamshire Secondary Transfer Test (STT), the shared 11+ used by all the grammar schools in The Buckinghamshire Grammar Schools (TBGS) group, so a child sits the test once for any of them. Provided by GL Assessment, it consists of two multiple-choice papers, one covering verbal skills (English comprehension, technical English and verbal reasoning) and the other mathematics and non-verbal and spatial reasoning.
The Buckinghamshire Secondary Transfer Test is sat in the autumn term of Year 6. For 2027 entry, children sit a Practice Test on Tuesday, 8th September 2026 and the actual Secondary Transfer Test on Thursday, 10th September 2026, taking both papers (each around one hour) on the test day. Scores are age-standardised so younger children are not disadvantaged, and a standardised score of at least 121 is required for a child to be considered qualified for a Buckinghamshire grammar school.
Children at state-funded Buckinghamshire primary schools are entered for the test automatically. Families whose child attends any other school must register with Buckinghamshire Council during the registration window, which for 2027 entry opened at 10 am on 1st May 2026 and closed at 3 pm on Tuesday, 2nd June 2026. Parents must then name the school on the Common Application Form by 31st October 2026.
The Practice Test is on Tuesday, 8th September 2026 and the Secondary Transfer Test on Thursday, 10th September 2026, with results issued to parents on 9th October 2026, before the Common Application Form deadline. A standardised score of 121 or above qualifies a child, but does not guarantee a place at an oversubscribed school. School allocations are confirmed on national offer day, 1st March 2027.
