Lancaster Royal Grammar School sets its own entrance test, which assesses English, mathematics and verbal reasoning. The school does not use non-verbal reasoning. There is no fixed cut-off score; entry is based on the strength of the candidates sitting the test in a given year.
The Lancaster Royal Grammar School 11 plus exam consists of three tests: a verbal reasoning paper, a mathematics paper and an English paper, each in multiple-choice format and taking around 45 to 50 minutes. Scores are combined to produce an overall score, and for September 2027 entry the tests take place on Saturday 26 September 2026, with results sent to parents in early October.
For Lancaster Royal Grammar School 11 plus registration, families must complete the school's own online application form, available on the school website during the registration window. Families must also submit their Local Authority Common Application Form (CAF), naming the school, by 31 October.
