Poole Grammar School selects pupils through the Dorset Consortium 11+, a shared test produced by GL Assessment and used by all four grammar schools in the Bournemouth and Poole area, so a child sits the test once for any of them. The test consists of two multiple-choice papers – one covering English and Verbal Reasoning, the other Mathematics and Non-Verbal Reasoning – based on the Key Stage 2 curriculum.
The Dorset Consortium 11+ is sat on Saturday, 19th September 2026, with all consortium schools running the test on the same day under formal exam conditions. Children take two papers, each lasting around 50 to 55 minutes, with answers recorded on separate sheets. Scores are age-standardised so younger children are not disadvantaged, and there is no fixed published pass mark; the qualifying standard varies each year with applicant numbers.
Registration is completed by submitting the Common Poole Grammar registration form, available on the school’s website when the registration window opens, typically during the summer term. After the child sits the test, parents must also apply through the local authority, naming Poole Grammar School on the Common Application Form by 31st October 2026.
