About the school
Skipton Girls' High School is a selective grammar school for girls aged 11 to 18, situated in the North Yorkshire market town of Skipton. As part of the Northern Star Academies Trust, it is recognised for academic strength and a focus on developing independence, innovation and resilience, and was the first all-girls school to gain specialist status as an engineering college.
Skipton Girls' High School was founded in 1886 and became an academy in 2011. Almost 800 girls are organised into four houses named after influential women – Brontë, Curie, Franklin and Johnson – and the school combines a modern, dynamic curriculum with digital learning, sustainability and real-world problem-solving.
As a North Yorkshire grammar school, Skipton Girls' High School administers its own selective test through the FSCE (Future Stories Community Enterprise), while complying with the North Yorkshire coordinated admissions scheme.

Admissions information
The Skipton Girls' High School entrance test is the FSCE 11+, sat on a day in September 2026. Here is everything you need to know about the admissions process and exam structure.
Skipton Girls' High School administers its own selective test, set and marked by the FSCE (Future Stories Community Enterprise). The test consists of two papers: Paper 1 contains Maths and English questions in multiple-choice format (around 52 minutes), and Paper 2 contains Maths and English questions in a short written-answer format (around 35 minutes), alongside a creative element. It is built around the Key Stage 2 curriculum.
The Skipton Girls' High School FSCE 11+ is sat on a single day in September 2026, with all written elements taken at the school. Children complete the multiple-choice and short written-answer papers, which are computer-marked and age-standardised so that younger children are not disadvantaged, before candidates are ranked. A child may only take the test once.
Registration is completed directly with Skipton Girls' High School during the application window when the child is in Year 5, and families must also comply with the North Yorkshire coordinated scheme. Applications are typically made from spring until the end of June 2026. Parents must name Skipton Girls' High School on the North Yorkshire Common Application Form by 31st October 2026.
The test is sat on a day in September 2026, with results communicated to parents in mid-October 2026 (around Monday, 19th October 2026), before the Common Application Form deadline. There is no fixed pass mark; girls must achieve a high enough ranking to be offered a place, and meeting the standard does not guarantee one. School allocations are confirmed on national offer day, 1st March 2027.
Key admissions details

Skipton Girls' High School gives priority to girls living within its designated priority area, sometimes referred to as the catchment, who reach the required standard.
