Skipton Girls’ High School is a selective grammar school for girls aged 11 to 18, situated in the North Yorkshire market town of Skipton. As part of the Northern Star Academies Trust, it is recognised for academic strength and a focus on developing independence, innovation and resilience, and was the first all-girls school to gain specialist status as an engineering college.
Skipton Girls’ High School was founded in 1886 and became an academy in 2011. Almost 800 girls are organised into four houses named after influential women – Brontë, Curie, Franklin and Johnson – and the school combines a modern, dynamic curriculum with digital learning, sustainability and real-world problem-solving.

Skipton Girls’ High School administers its own selective test, set and marked by the FSCE (Future Stories Community Enterprise). The test consists of two papers: Paper 1 contains Maths and English questions in multiple-choice format (around 52 minutes), and Paper 2 contains Maths and English questions in a short written-answer format (around 35 minutes), alongside a creative element. It is built around the Key Stage 2 curriculum.
The Skipton Girls’ High School FSCE 11+ is sat on a single day in September 2026, with all written elements taken at the school. Children complete the multiple-choice and short written-answer papers, which are computer-marked and age-standardised so that younger children are not disadvantaged, before candidates are ranked. A child may only take the test once.
