Admissions information
The South Wilts Grammar School Girls entrance test is the South Wilts 11 plus, set by the school and provided by GL Assessment. Here is everything you need to know about the South Wilts Grammar School admissions criteria and exam structure.
South Wilts Grammar School selects pupils on academic ability through its own 11 plus, provided by GL Assessment. The test consists of three multiple-choice papers in Mathematics, English and Verbal Reasoning, taken in one sitting with a break between each paper. The papers are based on the Key Stage 2 curriculum.
The Mathematics paper lasts 50 minutes and covers number, algebra, measures, shape and space and handling data; the English paper lasts 45 minutes and covers reading comprehension, spelling, punctuation and grammar; and the Verbal Reasoning paper lasts 50 minutes. Scores are standardised for age, and there is a qualifying standard rather than a single fixed pass mark.
Parents register their daughter for the South Wilts 11 plus directly with the school through its online registration form. For September 2027 entry, registration closes at midnight on Tuesday 1 September 2026. Parents must also name South Wilts Grammar School on their Wiltshire Council Common Application Form, which is due by the 31st October.
Test results are emailed to parents in mid-October, after which families confirm their secondary school preferences through their local authority. School place offers are confirmed on National Offer Day in early March. Passing the test does not guarantee a place, as the school is regularly oversubscribed.
