The Torquay Boys’ Grammar School entrance test is the Torbay 11 plus, provided by GL Assessment. Here is everything you need to know about the admissions process and exam structure.
Torquay Boys’ Grammar School uses the Torbay grammar schools entrance test, provided by GL Assessment and used by the Torbay consortium of grammar schools. The test assesses English and Mathematics at Key Stage 2 level. All questions are multiple-choice, answered on a separate answer sheet that is marked electronically.
The Torbay 11 plus consists of two papers, each lasting around 50 to 60 minutes – one English and one Maths. Raw scores from both papers are statistically standardised, including an adjustment for age so that younger children are not disadvantaged, to create a total score on which candidates are ranked.
Registration is completed online directly with the school. For 2027 entry, registration opens on 1st March 2026 and closes on 15th July 2026. Parents must also name Torquay Boys’ Grammar School on the Torbay Council Common Application Form by 31st October 2026.
The Torbay 11 plus takes place in September of Year 6, with results released in mid-October, before the Common Application Form deadline. Meeting the qualifying standard does not guarantee a place, as the school applies its admissions criteria. School allocations are confirmed on National Offer Day, 1st March 2027.
