West Kirby Grammar School is one of the four schools in the Wirral Grammar Schools Consortium, alongside Calday Grange Grammar School, West Kirby Grammar School, Wirral Grammar School for Boys and Wirral Grammar School for Girls, which share the Wirral Admissions Test. A child sits one test that can be used for any of the four consortium schools. The test assesses verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and mathematics, and entry is on the basis of academic ability.
The West Kirby Grammar School 11 plus exam consists of two multiple-choice papers taken on the same day, each lasting around 50 to 60 minutes, covering verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning (including spatial reasoning) and mathematics. Children mark their answers on a separate answer sheet, and scores are age-standardised. For September 2027 entry the Wirral Admissions Test takes place on Tuesday 15 September 2026.
For West Kirby Grammar School 11 plus registration, families must register their child for the Wirral Admissions Test online through Wirral Council during the registration window, which for 2027 entry opens on 1 May 2026 and closes on 1 June 2026.
