SATs week 2027 runs from Monday 10 May to Thursday 13 May 2027. Year 6 pupils in England sit six papers across three subjects: English grammar, punctuation and spelling, English reading, and maths. Schools can see the results from Tuesday 6 July 2027, and parents should get them before the end of the summer term.
Is your child in Year 6 and you are not sure when the tests happen? Do not worry. This guide shares the SATs 2027 dates, so you know exactly when to plan, when to relax and when to cheer your child on.
The Key Stage 2 tests are set for Monday 10 May to Thursday 13 May 2027. These are the official SATs 2027 dates.
The tests happen over four days, from Monday to Thursday. There are no KS2 tests on Friday. Schools must keep these days free, so they cannot choose different dates for the main tests.
You may also see people call them KS2 SATs 2027. KS2 means Key Stage 2, which covers Years 3 to 6 in primary school. The tests come at the very end of Year 6, just before children move on to secondary school.
Here are the SATs dates 2027 for every paper, so you can see what happens each day.
Date | Test | About how long |
Monday 10 May 2027 | English grammar, punctuation and spelling Paper 1: questions | 45 minutes |
Monday 10 May 2027 | English grammar, punctuation and spelling Paper 2: spelling | About 15 minutes |
Tuesday 11 May 2027 | English reading | 60 minutes |
Wednesday 12 May 2027 | Maths Paper 1: arithmetic | 30 minutes |
Wednesday 12 May 2027 | Maths Paper 2: reasoning | 40 minutes |
Thursday 13 May 2027 | Maths Paper 3: reasoning | 40 minutes |
Monday and Wednesday are the busiest days, with two papers each. A good breakfast and an early night before those days really help.
Your child answers questions on grammar and punctuation, then does a short spelling test where they listen and write words.
Your child reads several texts and answers questions about them. This is one long paper, so stamina matters.
First comes a quick arithmetic paper, then a reasoning paper with word problems and puzzles.
The final test is another reasoning paper. After this, the tests are over, and your child can finally relax.
Pupils who are in Year 6 during the 2026 to 2027 school year sit the tests in May 2027. These are children who are 10 or 11 years old.
The Year 6 SATs 2027 cover three subjects:
English grammar, punctuation and spelling, with two papers.
English reading, with one paper.
Maths, with three papers.
There are no written tests for English writing or science. Instead, teachers give a judgement for these subjects, based on your child's work across the whole year.
Here are the Year 6 SATs 2027 dates and the other primary school test dates that fall around them.
Date | What happens |
During May 2027 | Optional Key Stage 1 tests for Year 2 |
Monday 10 to Thursday 13 May 2027 | KS2 SATs for Year 6 |
From Monday 7 June 2027 | Multiplication tables check for Year 4, in a 2 week period |
From Monday 14 June 2027 | Phonics screening check for Year 1, in a 1 week period |
Tuesday 6 July 2027 | Schools can view KS2 SATs results online |
Before the end of the summer term | Parents receive results and teacher judgements |
Monday 8 to Thursday 11 May 2028 | KS2 SATs for next year's Year 6 |
Children get ill, and that is okay. If your child is away on a test day, they may be able to take the test up to 5 school days later. The school has to apply for a timetable variation and get approval from the Standards and Testing Agency first.
So if your child feels unwell during SATs week 2027, tell the school office as early as you can. They will know what to do.
Schools can view the KS2 SATs 2027 results online from Tuesday 6 July 2027. Each school decides how to share them with families, but you should have them before the summer term ends. Your child's school will also talk to you about their overall performance before the summer holidays.
Your child's marks on each test are changed into a scaled score. This makes results fair from year to year, even if one paper is a little harder than another.
Scaled score | What it means |
120 | The highest score possible |
100 to 119 | Met the expected standard |
100 | The expected standard |
80 to 99 | Has not yet met the expected standard and may need more support |
Writing and science do not have tests. For these, your child gets a teacher judgement instead. The secondary school your child is moving to can also see the results, which helps them plan the right support.
Year 6 SATs Tuition
Our Year 6 SATs tutors help Year 6 children build skills and confidence long before the first paper.
As we write this, SATs week is just over 30 weeks away. That is plenty of time to build skills in a calm way. Here are five simple ways to help.
The reading paper is long, and it asks about meaning, clues and word choices. Reading a little each day builds speed and understanding.
Maths Paper 1 is all about speed and accuracy. Ten minutes of times tables, fractions and written methods a few times a week works wonders.
Pick one idea each week, like fronted adverbials or apostrophes. Practise it with a few fun questions, then move on.
Use a timer and a quiet room. Mark the paper together, and talk about what went well before you look at mistakes.
Some children just need a little extra help to feel sure of themselves. Our Year 6 SATs tuition helps children close gaps in reading, grammar and maths, one calm step at a time.
This is one of the biggest worries we hear from parents at Pass 11 Plus Grammar. The answer is simple. No, SATs results do not decide grammar school places. Grammar schools use the 11 plus and their own admissions rules.
That said, both the SATs and the 11 plus draw on what children learn in Key Stage 2 English and maths. So strong basics help in both. A child who reads well, knows their times tables and can think through word problems is in a great spot for either test.
KS2 SATs | 11 plus | |
Who sits it? | Year 6 children in England | Children applying to selective schools |
When? | May of Year 6 | Usually in the autumn of Year 6, but it depends on the school |
What is it for? | To show how pupils are doing against the national curriculum | To help select children for grammar school places |
Can it decide a place? | No | Yes, along with each school's rules |
Many children do well in SATs with good teaching at school and a bit of practice at home. But extra help can be a real boost when a child keeps getting stuck on the same topics, loses confidence, or feels worried before tests.
If you would like help close to home, you can reach out to our SATs tuition in Birmingham. Our tutors focus on understanding, not just tricks, so children feel proud of what they can do.
When SATs week 2027 finally arrives, your child needs calm and care much more than last-minute cramming. Here are some easy ideas.
Sleep: aim for early nights all week, especially before Monday and Wednesday.
Breakfast: a good meal helps children stay focused for long papers.
Keep it light: no big new topics. A little gentle revision is plenty.
Be kind: say, "Do your best, and I will be proud of you." Then mean it.
Plan a treat: a family trip or a favourite meal after Thursday gives your child something to look forward to.
The SATs 2027 dates are fixed. Year 6 SATs run from Monday 10 May to Thursday 13 May 2027, schools see results on Tuesday 6 July 2027, and parents hear before the end of the summer term. Write the dates on your calendar and keep the week as calm as you can.
Most of all, remember that your child is more than a test score. With steady practice, kind words and the right support, they can walk into SATs week feeling ready. At Pass 11 Plus Grammar, we are always here to help along the way. Get in touch with us today.
